Ad Agency CEO Named to University of Florida Advisory Council

Myrtle Beach, SC--Denise Blackburn-Gay, APR, President and CEO of Marketing Strategies, Inc. of Myrtle Beach, SC has been named to the Advisory Council for the University of Florida’s School of Advertising.

Blackburn-Gay joins an elite group of recognized leaders in the fields of marketing, advertising, public relations, and higher education.

The 20+-member team, known as the ‘Gator Ad Board’, meets twice a year serving as a professional network for the University of Florida advertising students and graduates.
Located in Gainesville, Florida, the University of Florida’s School of Advertising is one of four schools in the College of Journalism and Communication. Over 50 years old, the College is one of the youngest communication schools in the US; yet today, it has the second-largest undergraduate program in the nation.

“We are delighted to have Denise join us,” said Dr. John C. Sutherland, Professor and Chair of the Department of Advertising.  “Her expertise in the area of marketing and public relations will be extremely beneficial to our students. She is highly credentialed and well respected in the industry. Her agency is consistently ranked among the top in the country. It just made Forbes’ list of the nation’s top website developers for the fourth consecutive year, and both its advertising and  PR campaigns have a long history of success.”

Blackburn-Gay was nominated to the post by Dave Wilson, Executive Director of the Marketing and Communication Agency Network (MCAN), and an adjunct professor and board member of the University of Florida’s School of Advertising.  “We welcome Denise onboard,” said Wilson.  “We won’t hold the fact that she is graduate of Marshall University against her,” he laughed.

“I am honored,” commented Blackburn-Gay.  “I am impressed with both the School and its students,’ she said of her initial visit to the campus.

In addition to serving on the Advisory Council of the University of Florida’s School of Advertising, Blackburn-Gay is a member of the Business Advisory Board for Horry-Georgetown Technical College.
