The Power of the Pen: The Perfect Thank You

Society and the business world have both changed with the constant improvement of technology. Yet as busy and involved as we have become with both our personal and professional lives and ambitions, there are still many time honored traditions that are valuable tools. A thank you note, handwritten, is a wonderful example.

Thank you notes are appropriate for all gifts, including the gift of one’s time and personal interest in you. It is always appropriate to thank another for their gift and can also be an invaluable approach to maintain “top of mind awareness” with the recipient of your note.

Perhaps you have had an interview for an internship. Your handwritten note can be a way of extending the interview. You can display a neat, handwritten manuscript, highlighting your ability to use good grammar, spelling, punctuation and use of vocabulary. Not to mention showcasing good social graces.

Begin the note with a warm salutation. The body of the note should begin with a mention of the position for which you interviewed, followed by a brief description of the experience and ability you can bring to that position. Complete the body of your note with a final thank you for the interview and the interviewer’s time. A complimentary close, followed by your full name signature, will add the final touch.

Good manners are an essential element of our character. Always remember to display these manners by writing a thank you note whenever appropriate. Your personal touch will speak volumes to the recipient in regards to yourself, and will also be appreciated and remembered.
